We are thrilled to share the impressive news that the Knights of Columbus in the Lancaster area have successfully raised the funds necessary for AWC to purchase a new, state-of-the-art ultrasound machine, PLUS six years of ultrasound maintenance! This generous gift ensures that A Woman’s Concern can continue offering a service that not only saves lives but protects the health of expectant mothers.
For many women and men, an ultrasound is the moment when fear begins to fade, and hope takes root. But the value of this imaging goes beyond reassurance, it is critical for maternal health and safety. It is essential to protect a woman’s well-being and here’s why:
- Confirm Pregnancy & Location – An ultrasound confirms that a pregnancy is inside the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies can be life-threatening if undetected.
- Determine Gestational Age
– Knowing the accurate stage of pregnancy is essential for making safe medical decisions and planning appropriate care for both mother and baby. - Identify Multiple Pregnancies
– Some women are carrying twins or more—something only an ultrasound can reveal—so that care can be tailored to their unique needs. - Protect Maternal Health – Understanding the pregnancy’s stage and location enables timely intervention and the right medical support, safeguarding a mother’s health and the lives of all involved.
At AWC, we believe that providing free, confidential ultrasounds is one powerful way that we show love, share truth, and empower parents. The Knights of Columbus have been instrumental in supporting this part of our mission from the very beginning. They provided funding for AWC’s very first ultrasound machine—the first machine provided by the Knights in the entire state of Pennsylvania! Now, their extraordinary generosity is at work again, helping us expand access to life-changing care.
